But I really am the great, slow-moving coelecanth, so that's not that surprising. Racing around just makes me sweaty and uncomfortable. But regardless of the activity, the important thing is, as you say, to feel stronger and more empowered. It's just irritating to have weight loss smeared all over what really isn't a weight loss workout.

living400lbs - I will have to check that out. I do like her attitude, and I'm completely fascinated watching her body in motion. I haven't actually gotten to whiting out the offending remarks in the Barbara Currie book, but then, I've been doing it enough that I don't need to read the description any more, just get a reminder from the pictures. But I'll probably do it soon, because there are many more levels.

Catgal - yep, going to, very soon. But happily it hasn't been interfering with my 15 minutes, so that is something.

pyewacketsid - Heh, thank you. :)

hope - Yeah, look, I'm completely amazed myself by how much I'm enjoying this and how much better I've been feeling, even in the short time I've been doing it regularly. Unfortunately, in my experience, the compulsive eating needs a bit more attention. But if you feel like it, there are a lot of entries in this blog about things that have been making a real difference to me this year, and which have actually contributed enormously to me getting to the point of being able to exercise because I enjoy it and its effective.

Sunny - HI! THANK YOU SUNNYBUNNY! (I'm assuming you're my Sunnybunny...If you're another Sunny, I'm sorry) To be honest, I'm not even focusing on health benefits. It's more like "wow, I feel better, my back feels better, I only want to sleep on one pillow, I want to sit up straighter, what the heck is going on here?" Which, since I clearly don't do things because they're "good for me", is probably the way to go, really. Hehe.

Mary - That's a good suggestion, though I tend to be one of those people who ends up with great stacks of copied and printed paper around the place (three copies of the same knitting pattern, that kind of thing). Though I haven't done either so far, I imagine I'll probably go for actually whiting out the book in the future because I just know I'll lose the paper copies.maddiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17164094343714816169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-161039890401372446.post-24721980959281178322008-10-21T17:44:00.000+01:002008-10-21T17:44:00.000+01:00I would copy the pages with the workouts on them, ...I would copy the pages with the workouts on them, and tape white paper over the sales bits (or white it out!) - that way, I have a clean copy just with the good stuff on it, so the bad stuff doesn't keep rearing its head. Does that work for you?mccnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03165418587264184501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-161039890401372446.post-63749108446718310632008-10-21T15:38:00.000+01:002008-10-21T15:38:00.000+01:00I love your blog, Maddie. :)And I totally agree: t...I love your blog, Maddie. :)

And I totally agree: take a black marker to that crap. Or, if you're feeling saucy, write little snarky comments next to her weight-loss tips.

Focusing on the health benefits of exercise is definitely the way to go. Exercising to lose weight just doesn't work for most people, either because they don't lose weight and get discouraged and give up, or because they do lose weight and then their reason to keep exercising is gone. Sounds like you're going about it the right way though. Good luck.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-161039890401372446.post-45904801750730526642008-10-21T05:24:00.000+01:002008-10-21T05:24:00.000+01:00I'm 45 and I started exercising about 10 years ago...I'm 45 and I started exercising about 10 years ago after I hurt my back. It really helped my back and also I realized amazingly that I felt better. Now I really like to exercise, but going from someone who hated exercise to someone who loves it happened sort of spontaneously. I keep hoping my compulsive eating problem will somehow resolve itself in the same way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-161039890401372446.post-73064577842794633272008-10-20T21:17:00.000+01:002008-10-20T21:17:00.000+01:00"And dude, my mind gets really distracted by the n..."And dude, my mind gets really distracted by the notion that my experience of uniting said mind, body and spirit is supposed to be about making me thinner. I got it from the library, liked it, and then from Amazon :)

And yes, if certain text in the book is making you crazy, take some white-out to it. IT IS NOT A RARE, PRICELESS TOME. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-161039890401372446.post-60533739268339810262008-10-20T18:52:00.000+01:002008-10-20T18:52:00.000+01:00I don't do yoga because my ADD brain finds it too ...I don't do yoga because my ADD brain finds it too slow-paced and incredibly boring. I like faster-paced activities instead and Gilad's Express Workouts are perfectly suited to my short attention span. Not once does he mention weight or weight loss. His focus is always on how better fitness will make one feel stronger and more empowered. And that's a message I can really workout to.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06442545891223505489noreply@blogger.com
